Aestheticist
Aestheticists, through the appreciation of art and moderate excitement, help other High Elves reach and maintain spiritual harmony. [1]
They are called upon to help an Elf decide upon personal adornments, guide their choices in clothing, personal grooming, perfume and help decorate their mansions. Especially prominent Aestheticists assist with grander designs for buildings, landscape and event cities.[1]
Appearance
They are often eccentric and extroverted in appearance, wearing bright, colourful clothing decorated with various pendants and combs and feathers adorning their hair. Their tresses are coloured and they wear perfume derived from moonflowers, narinocha and sunroot, and moonflower. Despite all this, they remain experts in finding ways to be pleasing to the senses without any upset of of a persons yenlui.[1]
History
Their role began emerging following the Sundering civil war with many of the surviving Elves feeling that the cultural split was caused by a failure to moderate yenlui. Some considered that this could be mitigated by manipulation of the Winds of Magic via charms. Later clothing was used to influence emotions whilst gardens and landscapes were created to promote tranquility and well being.[1]
Status
In the Inner Kingdoms they are recognised as valuable in helping to maintain not just yenlui, but every aspect of an Elf ’s life. In contrast, the Elves of the Outer Kingdoms see them as avoiding proper work with even the art they used in their arrangements not being their own creation. [1]
Travel
Many Aestheticists travel far from home, from the the bustling cities of Cathay and the Old World to the dangerous jungles of Lustria. They can find influence in these exotic lands but also influence the same cultures. Returning to Ulthuan, an Aestheticist may be approached by a trading house who seeks information that they can capitalise on. [1]
Quotes
When Goblin hordes sacked Yvresse, our mages were quick to restore the toppled towers, but do not overlook the efforts of we Aestheticists. We made changes to the outlay of the city to mitigate the influence of Ulgu and placed shrines to the Cadai where their presence would be best felt. We did try to cultivate a grove of nightelm by the walls of Tralinia, but it just refuses to root in the soil of Yvresse.
