Appearance
At court he wore a long white robe, with curling flames patterned in gold thread, a narrow circlet atop his head and had an easy smile for his courtiers. [2a]
Diplomacy
During his reign, Caledrian often asked his brother Imrik to deal with the other elven princes in his stead. Caledrian knew that Imrik, despite his lack of diplomacy, was greatly respected by the other princes.[1]
Family
He was the eldest of the three sons of Prince Menieth, who was the son of Mage Caledor Dragontamer.[2a]
Caledrian had two younger brothers: Imrik (later Phoenix King Caledor I) and Dorien. His father believed that though Caledrian was heir, Imrik was the strongest of the three brothers.[2]
History
Caledrian inherited the rule of Caledor when his father was slain in the wars of conquest at some time during the reign of Bel-Shanaar.[2]
After his victory at the Battle of the Laithenn River, Caledrian summoned his brother and his companions back to Ulthuan, [2a] calling a council meeting at his court in Tor Caled. There they received a herald of the Phoenix King, Tirathanil who conveyed the growing worry of Bel-Shanaar about the Cults of Pleasure and that they were controlled by Morathi. After debate at the council, Imrik suggested that they convince the King to broker an agreement between all the ruling princes that their kingdoms be purged, to which all present agreed. [2a]
At a subsequent council, again the choice of general was before Prince Malekith arrived at the council and offered to lead the armies of the Phoenix King and although he was not happy, Imrik declared that Caledor would not oppose the choice. Returning home, the three brothers agreed that although they would supply magical weapons from Vaul's Anvil to support the war, they would not serve beneath the banners of Malekith and no Dragons would take to the sky to aid him. [2c] At the bidding of Caledrian, Imrik traveled once more to Tor Anroc following the capture of Morathi and offered to slay her himself, but Bel Shanaar listened to Malekith and kept her under arrest in his palace. For the next twenty years, there was peace across Ulthuan. [2d]
In -2750 IC [3] news came that Malekith had been overthrown once more and had fled from Nagarythe, with rumours suggesting that Eoloran Anar was behind the rebellion. The Cults once more began to rise across Ulthuan and the Phoenix King convened a council on the Isle of Flame to discuss the matter - although Caledrain wanted Imrik to go yet again, he refused and told him that he had avoided the other princes for long enough! Caledrian had Thyrinor accompany him to the council. [2e]
Massacre at the Shrine of Asuryan
At the Isle, the meeting was delayed by the late arrival of Prince Malekith, accompanied by knights of Anlec who then announced that Weakness grips this island like a child squeezing the juices from an over-ripened fruit. He further stated that the Phoenix King was dead, having been a secret cultist himself. Arguments began immediately but calls also for who would be the new Phoenix King, with Caledrain denying his intent to take the role when he tried to bring the council to order. [2e]
When Malekith suggested himself as the new ruler, Imrik was also put forward by Finudel much to the scorn of the Prince of Nagarythe who began a rant about why he should be the next king. During this, Mianderin pointed out that contrary to tradition, he was armed and demanded he remove his sword. Malekith drew Avanuir and Elodhir called him traitor, attacking him but being swiftly cut down. [2e]
Caledrian and the other unarmed princes fought against the knights but as he saved Thyrionor from one knight, another cut his head off. [2e][3]
