Lathrain
Lathrain, the Wrathbringer is a powerful magical sword wielded by Imrik, later the Phoenix King Caledor I the Conqueror. [1]
History
It was originally forged for his father Prince Menieth by the priests of Vaul at the behest of Caledor Dragontamer. He died in battle with it in his hand and it passed to Imrik. [2a]
Caledor used it in the vicious civil war against Witch King Malekith, killing hundreds of elves of Nagarythe with it in battle and killing mighty champions of his enemy until he faced Malekith himself in battle. With the sword in hand, he killed his Dragon and forced the Witch king to flee before him. [1]
Powers
The sword has Ithilmar runes of death and sharpness and weighs no more than a feather in the hands of the wielder. It never needs to be sharpened and can cut through solid rock with even snow unable to settle on its edge so sharp is it. [2a]
Quotes
To wield it is the greatest honour in Caledor, but to bear it is to carry the honour of the kingdom also. |
