Tower of Hoeth
The White Tower of Hoeth is the largest repository of magical knowledge in the world. The political and cultural centre of Saphery and the centre of learning for Ulthuan, the tower is led by the High Loremaster. [2a]
Guardians
The Tower of Hoeth is carefully protected by the Sword Masters.[1c]
History
It was built by order of Phoenix King Bel-Korhadris the Scholar King, who was later buried inside its foundations and whose ghost is said to sometimes aid scholars.[1a] Work was begun in the 11th year of his reign (-679 IC) and not completed until 497 IC. [1b]
In the 400th year of his reign, the tower was half-completed but already a small town of mages and scholars had sprung in its shadow. The Loremasters, the order of mages in service of Hoeth, was formed in this time.
Locations
It is a incredibly tall structure, perhaps the tallest in the world, reaching up like a vast ivory spear into the clouds. At the top is a cupola from where the High Loremaster can view the surrounding area. Hundreds of sorcerers attend the tower, learning and exchanging knowledge with peers. [2a]
The bottom of the tower, including a labyrinth of cellars and tunnels is filled with the shelves of the library. [2a]
Around the tower are gardens and glasshouse farms to provide food and drink, with the former also used as informal teaching areas. [2a]
