A week after Queen Freya left Three Hills, Alaric the Mad arrived with a hundred Dwarf warriors to tell Maedbh that the Queen had been defeated at the Battle of the River Aver and was likely dead. Maedbh gathered the remaining Asoborn and headed for Reikdorf. [1a]

Around 600 people formed a long column but on the fifth day of the march the dead caught up with them and Maedbh resolved to make a last stand rather than leave the very young and very old. Honouring his life-debt to Wolfgart, Alaric and his century of warriors stood with her. [1b]

Battle

Khaled first sent in his Dire Wolves, the Skeletons marching behind them - the undead wolves were met by arrows destroying fifty and many more fell to the crossbows of the Dwarfs. Those that reached the Asoborn lines were met with spear and sword, but managed to kill some of the defenders but then the Dwarfs on the flanks swung into to slaughter them, their armour inviolate to the fangs and claws. [1c]

Now however the massed ranks of the Skeletons began to close in perfect lockstep but as they drew within fifty paces, a series of Unberogen horn blasts sounded from the woods behind the Asobron. Led by Sigmar and Wolfgart, hundreds of heavy cavalry crashed into the Skeletons, splitting the host in two. Alaric and his Dwarfs followed the cavalry, cutting their way through with sweeps of their heavy axes. [1d]

As Sigmar headed towards him, Khaled retreated, his own cavalry galloping away and without him the dead began to fade. Another hour of hard fighting saw them completely destroyed. [1d]
