Pit Fighting in the Empire
Pit Fighting is a well-known sport across the Empire. [1]
They take place in Gladiatorial fighting pits where warriors confront each other in brutal hand to hand combat, sometimes to the death before a baying crowd. Despite being so popular they are often outlawed. [1]
Fights can take place in barns and back alley as well as purpose-built arenas and often huge sums of money are made by merchant guilds and gambling cartels. [1]
History
A number of outcasts and escaped slave put fighters found their way to the streets of Mordheim after the comet fall in search of riches and proved highly dangerous in the close quarters fighting that often occurred there. [1]
Pit fighters
The pits are a haven for escaped convicts and former mercenaries, in addition fearless Dwarf Troll Slayers and Ogres can also be found in arena's. Most undergo rigorous training before they can enter the pits as they are expensive investments. [1]
Types of Pit Fighters
There are styles of armour and weapons used by fighters that reflect the enemies of the Empire:[1]
- Pit King: Veteran fighter often dressed in old forms of heavy armour wielding great axes or swords. [1]
- Close Combat: Heavy plates of armour on the shoulders, heavy greaves and iron gauntlets. [1]
- Pursuers: Light skirmishers with little armour and a stylised helm. [1]
