The Battle of Pahuax is a battle in Lustria during the End Times.[1a]
History
Having rebuilt their strength after the battles for several temple cities, the massed armies of Clan Pestilens were dispatched by Lord Skrolk to the north - with four Plaguelords each leading a huge clawpack. Although they had hoped to use underground passages, these had all been destroyed by the Slann using earthquakes to bury them or diverting entire rivers to flood them. [1a]
The ratmen were therefore forced to travel overland through the dense jungle, making them vulnerable to ambush from Tehenhauin, the Prophet of Sotek. As they marched, the skaven suffered heavy losses as skinks sent poisoned darts in to their ranks, salamanders burnt formations of Plague Monks and pursuits into the treeline were lured into pit traps or to the larger saurians that lurked hidden nearby. [1a]
Tehenhauin only engaged in larger scale skirmishes where the lay of the land suited his forces such as the Lush Plains where long grass concealed his troops as they moved to encircle and the Xloxlec Swamps where the rafts used to float war machines were attacked and monsters in the water fed well. However, some of these carefully prepared ambushes failed such as at the Valley of the Silent Watchers where vicious tunnel fights broke out and the Skaven had the upper hand in their own environment. [1a]
Weapons provided by Clan Skryre were pivotal in allowing the Skaven to advance as Ratling Guns tore flights of terradons to pieces, Stormfiends burned out entire ambush sites and poisoned wind mortars cleared their enemies out of dense jungle. When the fighting grew fierce enough, the Plaguelords were able to summon Verminlords to aid them - having been granted this knowledge by Lord Skrolk and Vermalanx the Corrupt. [1a]
Finally the four clawpacks converged and Tehenhauin would give no more ground, choosing to make a stand in the ruins of Pahaux before the remnants of the Temple of the Rising Serpent. [1a]
Battle
As the Skaven approached they were confronted by a reptilian army that stretch across the horizon, roaring a challenge to oncoming ratmen. Night Runners moved before the army and were countered by Skink Skirmishers who attempted to keep the scouts from finding the locations of the many concealed pit traps and huge Ash Snakes that lay in wait. [1b]
Although Lord Grilok was content to bring up the rear of the advance, the other three Plaguelords were keen to prove themselves and their clawpacks advanced together behind a mass of rats. Energy beams lashed out from magical gems mounted on top of some of the larger beasts, combining to destroy a Plague Furnace with their first shot whilst a counter charge by massed Stegadons smashed into the oncoming Plague Monks, killing hundreds. [1b]
Skirmishers and ripperdactyls attacked from the flanks, targeting the artillery batteries but as the grind continued through the day the lizardmen were worn down and even the greater beasts were pulled down by swarms of rats and skaven. As night began to fall, the skaven were driven back once more by The Prophet and his red-crested skinks but he could see that they were quickly reforming. Using the heart of a plague monk he had just cut down, Tehenhauin summoned a sea of snakes to cover the retreat of the remnants of his army. As they fell back, he sent messages to Hexoatl to warn them of what was coming.[1b]
