Imperial Ostlanders
The Imperial Ostlanders are a famous regiment of the Empire. [1a] [1]
The Emperor’s Own Imperial Ostlanders are a under the direct command of the Emperor himself and are charged with scouting the mountain frontiers. They are to travel across and even beyond the borders, finding potential threats and track their progress of any invading army, relaying their reconnaissance reports back to Altdorf.[1]
Although nominally part of the Wolfenburg 2nd Regiment of Foot, the Ostlanders act independently and under the command of their own Colonel. They remain a small but professional force with fierce Sigmarite pride. Decades of hard campaigning has made them formidable soldiers who have instinctive understanding of their enemies, the Greenskins in particular. [1]
The regiment has a understanding with the Dwarfs of the Black Mountains and they exchange information on potential and existing threats. [1]

History
In 2410 IC, as the hordes of Grom the Paunch threatened the Empire and Emperor Dieter IV did nothing more than choose new tapestries, Prince Wilhelm could not restrain his frustration with the lack of intelligence on the potential enemy. [1]
He was, therefore delighted when Gerson von Tasseninck, Elector Count of Ostland pledged to provide a troop of scouts to find, track and hunt the greenskins. A small force of tough highlanders was indeed provided and sent out to track the horde and pick of any stragglers. [1]
Following the defeat of the Dwarfs at the Battle of Iron Gate , they shadowed the victorious orcs and goblins from Karak Kadrin into the Empire. They also sent word to towns in its path, saving many lives. They fought in the line of battle once the greenskins reached the Reikland and it is said that one of the regiment even saved the future Emperor from a Orc spear. [1]
In 2429 IC, the now Emperor Wilhelm, instituted the Imperial Ostlanders as a scout regiment. [1]
The regiment proved its worth by successfully scouting the undead legions of Antoine von Carstein in 2465 IC giving Emperor Mattheus II time to muster the Elector Counts to win the Battle of Schrolnetz Plain. [1]
However in 2474 IC they failed to notice the threat of the army of the Duc de Parravon in the Grey Mountains. [1]
A force of greenskins were detected massing in the Middle Mountains in 2506 IC and word sent to the Elector Count of Ostland as well as Altdorf. This resulted in the destruction of the threat at the Battle of the Plain and elevated the reputation of the regiment considerably in their home province.
Colonel Sievers and his men were in position to observe the advance of the vast horde of Tamurkhan the Maggot Lord with captives telling them that Nuln was the target of the invasion. Correctly reasoning that the horde would enter the Empire via Winter's Teeth Pass, they headed north to warn Countess Emmanuelle and Margrave Olger Hoch of Wissenland. [1a]
