History
The siege begins
Plaguelord Gritch led his army to Itza in the wake of the bombardment of Lustria by Warpstone meteors but did not attack the city immediately, conscious of its high walls and powerful army, even if the garrison had been reduced by sending forces to Xahutec. He had his slaves dig trenches and build emplacements for his artillery whilst destroying outposts and watchtowers outside the gates.[1a] The Plague Lord was also awaiting the arrival of the Contagion Conclave and their Cauldrons of a Thousand Poxes who had been delayed by the terrain and attacks by creatures of the jungle and patrolling Lizardmen. [1d]
Finally Lord Grilok and his charges arrived and began to load the specially created vats of pure disease into the Plagueclaw Catapults that stood ready to bombard the city. Once this had been completed, Lord Gritch ordered the loathsome barrage to begin. [1d]
Bombardment
The gelatinous missiles, trailing corruption as they flew began to melt whatever they hit, whether that be buildings, monuments, unfortunate Skinks, Saurus or saurian beasts - even Obsinite was unable to resist the corrosion. The hail of toxic sludge including strains of Oozing Eye Plague, Red Pox, Scalamundrax and Seeping Pox each brewed in a Cauldron of a Thousand Poxes. This bombardment also created a miasmic cloud that surrounded the city, hanging in the still air. [1d]
Tekza ordered cohorts of Saurus to march against the artillery emplacements but they staggered and fell as they entered the mist plague as did the second and third cohorts before the rest of the legions were commanded to fall back. Flying cohorts of Terradons were dispatched to try and attack the artillery but the limited damage they caused was quickly repaired. An attempt was made to use Bastiladons to attack through the mist but they fared little better than Saurus and as some catapults began to advance, others continued their fire against the city. Tezka pulled his forces further back into the city, unsure of how to respond to the attack. [1d]
A storm comes
A storm began to build rapidly above the city and as it did so the rearguard of the Skaven army was quietly eliminated by Chameleon Skinks but this was just the precursor of the onslaught of the Red Host of Tehenhauin, a carpet of snakes emerging first. Cohorts of Red Crested Skinks and Kroxigor followed with Cold One Riders close behind with Bastiladons with Arks of Sotek. The rear ranks of the Plague Monks turned to face the new force as the storm broke above them but it was already too late. [1d]
Bolstered by divine magic, Tehenhauin tore through the enemy, the Serpent God protecting him from the disease and plagues as his warriors shattered the rearguard aided by vast numbers of snakes. Soon they were fighting their way to the artillery and approaching Lord Gritch, who vomited up his last meal in terror. There was no escape however for any of the Skaven as the rain quickly turned the ground into a slippery mire with any ratmen who managed to escape the battle being cut down by the Chameleons at the edge of the jungle.
