History
As Gutrot led his forces through the Drakwald he encountered a large force of Beastmen led by the Harbinger who had foreseen his coming. The Shaman pledged himself and his thousand followers to the Champion of Urfather and they continued to progress through the forest until they were confronted by the Masked Chieftain - battle was immediately joined.[1a]
Battle
Gutrot led his vanguard, fighting his way into a large clearing as more and more spiders and greenskins tried to tear them apart. Many foes had fallen to the Poisoned Feather Tribe ambushes but this time the forces of Chaos proved more resilient, managing to form a battleline.[1d]
The progress of the Chaos force through the forest had also drawn the attention of the Savage Orc tribes led by Grokka Goreaxe who now joined the fight. Despite the array of spiders, vast and tiny and the raging greenskins, the chaos worshipers saw this as an opportunity to prove themselves to their gods.[1d]
Although the goblins were not formidable warriors, there were a great number of them, more than ten times that of the warriors of Chaos. Each second saw more and more of them dropping down from the trees and joining the fight, swarming the invaders including the War Shrine. Although spears and claws pierced the rubbery flesh of Spume, his blessings meant they only annoyed him - his rage was to grow when his axe was wrenched from his grasp.[1d]
Gutrot headbutted, kicked and punched the horde that sought to envelop him with those spiders who dared to bite him and inject their venom, dying from the diseases within the champion of Nurgle. And then his god intervened directly....[1d]
A gigantic, wide-mouthed face appeared above the clearing and vomited out a swarm of slime-slicked flies into the battle. The vast and bright blue Arachnarok Spider Stompin's Cobb entered the clearing, tearing through the Walderbeasts but its charge was countered by the malign magic of the Harbinger. The Tusk Axes charged another giant arachnid, their shartak hacking one leg off but the arachnarok fought back hard, blinding its opponent before stabbing it again and again with its chitinous legs.[1d]
Again, the Harbinger called upon Nurgle who belched out more of the Daemon flies that forced their way inside the titanic spider via its spiracles and killed it. It death-scream was unheard, drowned out by the war cries of the Grokkamobs as they charged the Sons of the Last Plague. Their ferocity forced the chosen back as a hundred boar boyz slammed into a beast herd that sought to reinforce the Sons, scattering them before them.[1d]
As the battle raged, Grokka Goreaxe tore through the sons, blows that struck him only increasingly his fury. As his warriors hammered the sons again and again. Eogric forced his way through and simply took the warboss's head - although the body fought on for a few moments, killing a pair of Norscans![1d]
The Rotting Riders charged hard into the fray, but another arachnarok leapt over to counter them, the shaman atop it conjuring a vast apparition of his god that dispelled the clouds of flies. The gigantic ethereal legs of the spider turned hardened fighters into desiccated husks with a touch as the shaman giggled atop its mount.[1d]
Carelessly killing ungor as it approached, a Jabberslythe charged the orcs and then its tongue reached out to grab the shaman and as he was devoured, the vast moon-spider faded away. Spume himself now fought the leader of the spider tribes, first killing his mount and then entrapping the chieftain. The goblin bit him in desperation but soon found its own body and head swelling with the power of Nurgle before its burst.[1d]
Panic spread through the remaining greenskins and spiders and they fled.[1d]
