Blighted Isle
The Blighted Isle is an island to the north of Ulthuan, one of The Isles. [1]
The island is covered in the bodies of the dead whose spirits haunt its blasted terrain and who still eternally battle. [1a] The expanse of old bones, armour and weapons is also known as the Plain of Bones. [3]
Locations
- Altar of Khaine: The resting-place of the dreaded Sword of Khaine[1][2], it is as large as the Pyramid of Asuryan and rimmed with huge statues. [3]
- Menhirs: A Thousand surround the Altar with each depicting an aspect of Khaine although some are little more than wind scoured boulders. [1]
History
Whilst returning Morathi home before heading north, Malekith sailed to the Blighted Isle seeking some remnant of his dead father. He was tempted by the Sword of Khaine which shimmered between different forms before finally settling on that of a bulbous mace covered in gems. Seeing visions of the death he could preside over with the mace until the whole world was conquered and the smoke of sacrificial fires blotted out the sun. Malekith denied this destiny and fled back to Indraugnir. [4a]
The High Elves and Dark Elves have fought for control of the island since the Sundering. The Dark Elves have conquered the island on occasion, but for most of history it has been controlled by the High Elves. [1]
Prince Tyrion led a army to the Island to defeat a force led by the Daemon N'Kari and although he was victorious he was tempted by the siren call of the Sword of Khaine, but resisted. [3]
