Hellsteeds are powerful winged Nightmares.
Although they appear to be winged horse, their skin is covered in hard scales with protective bone protrusions on its head. The beasts blood is black and stinks of sulpher whilst long claws and fangs can easily disembowell even an armoured man. Some have no skin or manes and tails for fire whilst their wings are broad, talon tipped and bat-like. [1a]
In battle, they go into frenzy with the scent of blood, eager to trample their enemy into the mud. So vicious are they that some vampires relish the challenge of breaking them to their will.[1a]
