Unnumbered zombies | Thousands of Skaven Fortress breached Feskit dead |
Mannfred von Carstein entered the Border Princes in search of the Fellblade but discovered that they had already fallen to the Skaven. He small army was attacked a number of times by the ratmen and his horde of the dead was almost overwhelmed by them as they crossed Skull River. [1a]
The Vampire Lord raised the dead of three shattered fortress-towns to bolster his forces and pushed on, more cautiously now. He fought his way into Mad Dog Pass, pushing aside the Ironclaw Tribe of Orcs and heading into the tunnels that were buried deep beneath the Pass. [1a]
Battle
Initially the resistance to the undead was sporadic as the upper tunnels were home to lesser and out of favour with their Warlord chieftains. Those who sought to gain favour with Feskit by attacking were quickly overwhelmed and forced to flee if they could. Finally in the deepest part of the underground labyrinth Mannfred was confronted by the ramschackle fortress of Clan Mordkin. [1d]
Now the Skaven Warlord who, seeking the valuable ashes of a vampire, called for his own weapons and armour. The bone gates, made from the corpse of the firewyrm Ithragar, swung open for a large force of clanrats and Stormvermin led by Chieftain Snikrat. [1d]
Although the Skaven fought hard in defence of the lair they were pushed back and Snikrat unleashed his warpfire throwers but the dead still advanced and the Clan Mordkin were forced back to their final defensive line. A great chasm split the outer tunnels from the heart of the lair and the single bridge was destroyed as the dead began to cross. [1d]
Warplock weapon teams began to open fire and Snikrat headed for Feskrit of his success. Mannfred himself used his dead to grow a bridge of bloody bone from his zombies, ignoring the increasingly desperate missile fire from the other side. When it was complete, he rode at the head of his Templars, slaughtering all of the skaven before him. [1d]
Meanwhile, enraged by his failure, Feskit had torn out the throat of Snikrat and was leading his minions, including expensive beasts from Clan Moulder to meet the undead. The undead did not stop, even raising the most powerful of the skaven monsters slain! [1d]
At the gates of the inner fortress, Mannfred animated the bones of Ithragar which sought bloody vengeance behind the walls. Feskit and Mannfred fought briefly, but even with the Fellbalde, the Skaven was no match for the vampire. Pausing only to ensure that the undead Dragon would rampage through the battered fortress for several more days, Mannfred left with his prize. [1d]
